Tips For Finding A Lost Pet

Many pet owners have had that scary feeling of when a pet runs away, not knowing what has happened to them and if they are ok. First thing’s first, a few steps to prevent your pet from running away are: accompany pets outside, check your home and surroundings on a regular basis to make sure there are no easy ways out (unlocked gates, open windows, etc), secure your yard, spay and neuter, make sure to have an id tag, or even look into a microchip implant.

Once your pet is lost, it may be a time of panic, but here are a few tips in bringing your lost pet back home:

1. Search the neighborhood. Right away, enlist a few family members or friends to help search the neighborhood surrounding your home while calling your pet’s name. If your pet ran away recently it is a good chance they are nearby. Make sure someone stays at the home in case your pet comes back!

2. Call local animal shelters. Many times lost pets are brought to animal shelters for the owner to be located. File a lost pet report with your local shelter and check back with them each day.

3. Keep the phone handy. If you have your phone number on your pet id tag, chances are the person who finds your pet will be giving you a call.

4. Post online. Everything is done on the internet these days. Post information about your lost pet on Facebook, Twitter, or other websites you belong to. Check Craigslist.org every day under the “Lost and Found” section and post a free ad (but be weary of someone who cannot give you an exact description of the pet- especially if you are offering a reward!)

We hope these tips will help find your lost pet!
