Pet Nanny’s Tip of the Day: Zoonosis

Did you know that your pet can transmit diseases to you and your family, and the medical term for it is zoonosis?

Yes, that’s right; parasites can be transmitted by your pets to you and others, which can cause blindness and in extreme cases, death.

The parasites to be concerned with, as they are not required to be reported to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), are Roundworms, Hookworms, Tapeworms and Heartworms.

While these cases are rare, the most common way the diseases are transferred are through defecation in garden or play sandboxes, beaches, tapeworms through fleas, and heartworms through mosquitos.

To eliminate this:

Make sure your pet is free of the parasite through worm tests every six months, and maintaining good hygiene.
