Did You Know Pet Care Tips for Tear Stains

Does your pooch suffer from tear stains that are bothersome to his fur, with leaving dark stains and constant cleaning of tear ducts?
If so, your pet may have a more significant health problem, that needs to be monitored and carefully taken proper procedure of.
Sometimes, this occurrence is due to type of breed. However, those ‘tear’s’ may indicate a more significant health problem.
Not only can this be caused by improper drainage of tears, but it can also be a result of bacteria, eye irritation, or other musculoskeletal makeup.
Follow these steps to ensure safety of your pet’s eye and tear ducts:
- Mention to your vet.
- If it’s the shape of your pet’s eye that are causing these tear stains, there are ways to reduce staining and irritation. Sometimes surgery is a necessary option, but often times not.
- If there is an infection, your veterinarian may prescribe an antibiotic, but it is imperative to only keep your pet on the antibiotic for the duration intended as directed by your vet.
- Pet owners can also switch their water from tap to distilled/filtered water, as there are less minerals that will cause tear duct stains.
- Try a spoonful of plain yogurt to attack the cause of the stains.
- If no serious infection, and the tear stain(s) are simply cosmetic, wash your dog’s face regularly. Make sure you use an all-natural or gentle, dog-approved soap.
